HOMELESSNESS EDUCATION TRAININGS

Transform the way you think about homelessness.

Let's compassionately explore and rewrite the judgements, narratives, and physiological/emotional responses that exist within ourselves and our culture.

Through open and honest conversations, we will learn the realities of trauma, mental illness, and addiction/substance use, and begin a healthy, respectful and educated dialogue around homelessness and poverty in local communities.

WHY HAVE THIS CONVERSATION?

Many people, when seeing or interacting with an unhoused person, or a person who has been/is incarcerated, will have visceral bodily and emotional reactions to this individual. They may have intense narratives that circulate in their heads about who this person is, why they are where they are. Or, they may feel so lost in helplessness that they freeze and look the other way. All of these reactions are normal and nothing to be ashamed of, but rather things that need to be openly and compassionately explored. If we do not explore our reactions, then they will cause harm. The purpose behind this workshop is to create a space where people can work through these emotions, narratives, thoughts, feelings and reactions, while also receiving education around the reality of homelessness and poverty.

The more who are capable of interacting and building relationships with those who are unhoused, the more change-oriented a community will be.

THE WORKSHOP

This workshop is a five-part series with sessions lasting around one hour and fifteen minutes. Ideally this workshop would be held over the course of a month. It covers topics such as poverty, trauma, mental illness, substance use and addiction, and how all of these factor into the reality of being homeless in America.

10-25 people recommended.

1hr or 75 minute run time.

Our trainings are open and welcome to all who would like to participate. Work with TOF to help bring radical, lasting positive transformation to your community.
