POVERTY BIAS WORKSHOP
Unlearning Stigma, Reclaiming Dignity
Uncover hidden assumptions and build communities rooted in empathy and equity.
A dynamic workshop that exposes hidden biases about poverty and equips communities to respond with empathy, equity, and humanity.
About the Workshop
Our Poverty Bias Workshop invites participants to explore the often unseen assumptions, stereotypes, and systemic patterns that shape how we perceive and respond to people experiencing poverty. Through guided reflection, historical analysis, storytelling, and interactive exercises, we unpack common cultural narratives about poverty, and contrast them with the lived realities of those navigating economic hardship.
Participants will learn how unconscious bias shows up in daily interactions, institutions, and even in well-intentioned service settings. Together, we explore practical tools for shifting from judgment to empathy, from stigma to dignity, and from charity to solidarity.
This workshop is especially relevant for faith communities, service providers, educators, and anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of poverty and strengthen their capacity for compassionate, justice-oriented action.
Why It Matters:
-
Poverty is not simply a lack of resources—it is also a social identity often shaped by stigma and misunderstanding.
-
Recognizing and addressing poverty bias allows us to build communities that see people in their full humanity and support systemic change rooted in respect and equity.
